WELLINGTON NOTES.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this. day. STRATPORD-KAWAKAWA ROAD.

Regarding- the route between Stratford and Kawakawa, which, the correspondent of a local newspaper said would be open for traffic in a fortnight, I am informed by the Chief Engineer for Roads that only a horse track will be opened, chiefly 'for the purpose of carrying supplies to workmen. The completion of the road for wheel traffic will take two more years. MARLBOEOUGH CROPS. Private advices from Marlborough state that the barley crop has been excellent, and that buyers from Queensland are moving round. One large buyer from that colony was referred from Nelson to Blenheim, Nelson being unable to execute his orders. One grower in Marlborotigh produced 4000 bushels of barley. PICTON FREEZTNG WORKS. The Picton Freezing Works have been making good progress. The quantity and quality exported are both good.
