PORT ALBERT.

A meeting of the shareholders in the Wayby Co-operative Association was held in the Temperance Hall last Thursday evening. Mr W. Dudding was chairman. Mr Joel Grant gave a report of the visit to Auckland by delegates representing Port Albert, Wayby and Wellsford, in connection with the financing of the proposed butter factory. The report was very satisfactory. The directors had gladly availed themselves of the advice-1 and assistance of Mr Busck, late Government dairy expert. Mr Grant said if Port Albert settlers would join Wayby, the factory would be at once erected. Mr Busck said he had been agreeably surprised at the capabilities of the district, and he did not hesitate to say that the prospectl? of successfully running a butter factory there were highly favourable. The question of site for creamery was then considered, and on the recommendation of Mr Busck the meeting chose the site on the corner, of Mr J. Becroft's land, near what is known as Becroft's bridge. The bank guarantee for £3000 was signed by many shareholders, and the work of erecting buildings will be commenced at once.

General complaint is made at the low prices realised for fruit, not only in Auckland, but also in the Wellington market.
