UNIVERSITY DEBATING SOCIETY.

The University College Debating Society held its first debate of the year on Monday evening, the. subject being "That woman's influence has been a more important factor in advancing civilisation and education than man's." About 40 members were present, including ladies. Among the speakers were Misses Brown, Hetherington and Metcalfe, and Messrs Stephenson, Halliwell, Long, Coates, Slnclaire and others. The motion was eventually carried by 15 votes to 12, though against the weight of Opinion.
