A young man named John Wright has been arrested in connection with the robbery of £130 from the Empire Hotel on Saturday, and has been remanded. WELLINGTON, this day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Edmund Doher Foot, recently accountant for the Christehurch Church Property Trustees, pleaded guilty to stealing £21 6/9 belonging' to that body., He was committed for sentence, bail being allowed, the accused in £50 and two sureties for £50. Alfred Whitworth, a bankrupt, who was called for public ex'amirfi-tion at the Supreme Court to-day, did not appear. He has not been heard of for ten days. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Mr. E. Dockrill, being the only one nominated for the Mayoralty, was duly elected to-day. This is Mr. Dockrill's fifth term in the Mayoral chair. NAPIER, this day. James Swarm has been committed for trial on a charge of forging a cheque in 1899. Accused left the colony soon after the cheque was cashed, and returned quite recently, being arrested in Christchurch.
