NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB.
The annual picnic of the North Shore Yacht Club was held on Saturday at Paul's Bay, Orakei. There were about 250 members and their friends present, and although the weather looked threatening throughout the day the rain kept off until the last boat had left the Bay on the homeward journey, and the picnickers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Devonport band was ln attendance, and gave a number of selections. Mr James Dunning (vicecommodore) acted as starter and Mr C. P. Murdoch as judge- A committee, consisting of Messrs C. Bailey, W. Oliver, D. Murdoch, W. Alexander, and Captain Gibb, attended to all details, and the secretary (Mr W. A. Wilkinson) was as energetic as usual in getting off the different events. The sports were all keenly contested, and resulted as follows: — Yachts' Ding-y lia.ce: A froocl field of 11 started in this event, which was won by XV. Oliver (Ida). C. Smith (Matua) 2, E. Wilkinson (Speedwell) 3. Ladies' Dingy Race: Miss E. Oliver 1, Miss M.. Oliver 2, Miss A. Dacre 3. Sculling Dingy Race: R. Farquhar (Ida) 1, C. Robb (Alma) 2, A. Oliver (Helen) 3. Dingy Race (for members only): E. Wilkinson (Speedwell) 1, W. Parker (Mavis) 2, I). Murdoch (Ida) 3. Amphibious Race: A. Dacre 1, A. Proud 2, E. Young 3. This race caused much amusement, competitors having to run a distance on the beach, launch their dingys, and pull to a stake, make fast their painter, and swim back. Ten started. Orakei Natives' Race, about 100 yds: Chief Paul was handicapper for this event, which was won by Tene King. Water Tournament: A. Dacre's crew won this event after a great "go." Running Race, about 100 yds: E. Wilkinson 1, C. Smith 2, W. Buchanan 3. A conceret was given by the band, under Bandmaster Hunter, in the visitors' hall, which was kindly placed at the disposal of the Club by Chief Paul.
