A NATIVE PROTEST.
TAURANGA, this day
Natives here are indignant at the refusal of their country men for the Eighth Contingent alter the insults of the German press to their King and country. A large Ngaeterangi meeting is to be held at Hori Ngatai's settlement this week to protest against the German insults offered to our King ami to the New Zealand contingents. The natives wish to' uphold the position of the Hon. James Carroll, Native Minister, and intend submitting through that gentleman to the Governor an offer of trained and armed natives from this and other districts, to be at the King', immediate command.

WELLINGTON, Monday
Owing to the fact that the departure of the troopship Surrey from Sydney has been delayed, it is believed that the embarkation of the northern portion of the Eighth Contingent will be delayed until the 2Sth inst.
