The "New Zealand Gazette" states that the Minister for Public Works has secured possession of the* vacant allotment in Albert-street, adjoining the present Government Buildings. The object of this purchase is to enlarge the Customs Buildings and thus furnish accommodation for the yari-* ous Government Departments, which are at present scattered in different parts of the city. The Public Works Department is located in the Supreme Court Buildings, the Public Trustee in Palmerston Buildings, the Medical Office of the oßard of Health and the Factories and Labour Agency in High-t street, and the Old Age Pensions and Registrar of Electors in a portion oi the Government Insurance Buildings. These offices being'so widely scattered has proved a source of much inconvenience in the past, and their concentration in one building will be an improvement much appreciated Bj| the general public. It is not yet definitely known when the additions to the Customs Buildings will be commenced, but it is hoped no delay will be allowed to interrupt the immediate prosecution of the work.
