The criminal statistics for Dunedin for the year ended December 31st show SCB arrests for drunkenness, against 598 during the previous year; 143 prohibition orders issued, against 83; minor thefts 161, against 119. On the civil side the plaints entered were 3591, against 2990, and the respective amounts sued for were £57,319 and £ 137,5(10, and the amounts recovered £34,925 and £22,344. The large increase in the amounts is undoubtedly due to calls in connection with the dredging industry.
