A DOMESTIC TRAGEDY.
SYDNEY, Thursday
A .tragedy took place at Maclean, whene James Dowbng, who was living apart from his wife, gained ad-mitt-ince to her bedroom and shot her, inflicting three serious wounds. He escaped, but the police pursued him. Dowling fired, breaking Sergeant Brown's leg. Constable Somerville rushed Dowling while'in the act of ag-ain firing-, and he was secured. The woman is in a dangerous conditSon.
Dowling is an ex-alderman. About a year ago he attacked his wife and another lady with a tomahawk in a fit of temporary insanity. Since then his whereabouts have been unknowns
