THE KENNEL.

(By Canis.)

Mr W. R. Morris has been asked to Judge all classes of dogs except collleft at the forthcoming show of Palmerston North. Mr Morris has a good reputation down South, which fact will probably secure a bIR entry.

It appears that the Canterbury Kennel Club is still at ructions with the. New Zealand Kennel Club. It will be remembered the former was one of the clubs which was published in several newspapers some tin""l ago as not being financial with the lauer club, which declines to pass the schedule of the Canterbury K.C., in consequence of which tlu> cub has decided not to hold ti show at Christchurch tills .year. The kennel contributor of the "N. 7-. Field" in commenting on this drags in other clubs, inasmuch as he says —"Had the amount owing- to thp N.Z. K.C. been only the annual subscription of Z1 1/ a year, which all the affiliated societies so willingly contribute, even then it would have been unfair to other clubs who are and always have been financial, to grant the use of. Us rules; but this is not the case. The ui2jor portion of the money owing both by tii9 Northern and Southern bodies is money they had no right ever to have had In their pos3bssion. bclr.g rejcistrntlon fees paid by fane'ers to have their dog's placed on the N.Z.K.C. register of names. At the best this money is only held ir. trust by theso ; clubs, and should have been paid over to ; the N.Z.'K.O. before their respective showC ! wera held."

It does not seem particularly clear to me that all the affiliated societies of the N.Z.K.C. do so very willingly pay this guinea a rear, seeing that the'latter club bianOed four of them for being in arrears in amounts varying from about £4 to £7 odd. and the last balance-sheet proved that quite the majority of the clubs were more or less in arrears. Moreover, In the casj? of one Northern club, viz., the Auckland Collie Club, the major portion of the money claimed by the N.Z.K.C. (I cannot say owing by the former) is not for registration fees, but for affiliation fees for years when they were not to existence; and had the. demands of the N.Z.K.C. in the first instance have been wb'at the committee of A.X.C. considered just and reasonable, a settlement would have been made forthwith.

It is very pleasing to note that Auck-land-bred collies are gradually finding* their way into YankeS Land. A few months ago Mr C. Bailey, Jun., supplied n dog to a New York fancier, and the other day he show.cd me an order which through this he had received for three more. I am now informed that Mr Bailey shipped per barque Alice his dog Skipper, by Poneki Arlkl—Lady Belle; also two bitch puppies by Kingsland Chief—Fuss. The Skipper is a very handsome littla dog but the puppies I have not seen. Mr C. Bailey's collie bitch Lady Belle, by Picton Great Scott, has whelped four dogs and one bitch to Mr T. H. Bosworth's Northcote Chief—Champion St. Cecilia—three sable and white and two black, tan, and white. Reports are to hand that the noted collie breeder. Mr F. Rogen.intends to leave very shortly for South Africa. New Zealand will be a decided loser in the collie and poultry fancy, which Mr Rogen Will no doubt follow up in his new home.
