HUNTLY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

June 29

The usual monthly social in connection with the Huntly Presbyterian Church took place on Friday evening, the Rev. J. Egerton Ward presiding over a fairly large attendance of his parishioners and their friends. After prayer and an opening anthem by the Choir, an amusing and entertaining programme was gone through, the fresh young voices of Misses M. and A. Burke and E. Buchanan being heard to advantage in their two trios, while the selections given by Martha Geary and Lucy Smythe were highly appreciated. Instrumental solos were biven by Mr Arndt and Miss May Towsey, of Cambridge, two duets by Mr and Mrs Poole, vocal solos by Misses Troughear, Weir andJohnstone and Messrs Arndt and Holtham, and readings by the Rev. Mr Ward and Mr Elliot. Miss Johnstone, the church organist, was responsible for the accompaniments. At the conclusion of the concert an adjournment was made to the hall, where an enjoyable supper was served. All the arrangements were made by Mrs Friar, to whom the success of the function no doubt was compensation for the trouble she had undergone. Since the break occasioned by the Eoyal visit work has been continuous in all the mines, the daily output continuing to be large. The eleventh prize for volley firing, •which was awarded to the local corps, has been received by the treasurer.
