WANGANUI, this day,

In the Compensation Court, Judge Edwards ,with Mr MeKerrow (assessor for the Crown) and Mr McLean (assessor for the lessees) .to-day gave judgment for £1063 on account of £ 2505 compensation, claimed by Moore Bros, in respect of the lease of a. block of land near Wanganui, taken possession of by the Government. Dr. Findlay conducted the case for the Crown, and Mr Marshall for the lessees. .

The Land Board to-day decided-to tender - Sir. John McKenzie its congratulations on Ms knighthood, an honour which his great services as a land administrator richly merited. The Board further expressed the hope that he and Lady McKenzie would be spared to see many happy useful years. WESTPORT, Sunday.

The coal export for the week ended June 29 was 9740 tons, of which the Westport Coal Company shipped 9G78 tons Bcwt, and the Co-operative Company 61 tons 12 cwt.

The gross takings at the Agricultural Show were £790, against £632 for the previous year. Nearly 20,000 persons attended.

Mrs Eliza Melntosh, a resident of Laurence, who had been visiting Dunedin during the festivities, was found dead in her bed. She had been taking, drugs to relieve pains caused by heart affection,., and the bottle containing the drug was found alongside her bed.
