THE GOVERNMENT ARCH.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I observe by the papers that a meeting of the Cabinet has been called for the purpose of considering the prayer of Mr Napier that the shoddy abortion at the foot of Victoria-street be given to the city; also, that Mr Hall-Jones, in company with Mr Napier, have visited the said structure, and Mr H.J. thinks the Cabinet might, do worse than hand it over. Xow, I should think the Cabinet would be very pleased to make a present of such a noble piece of architecture to anyone who would remove it. Sir, it seems to me a pity that the Cabinet, Mr HallJones and Mr NapiVr had not something better to do than waste their time and intellect in such a way, and the citizens of Auckland must be longsuffering indeed if they accept and allow to be erected as an entrance to Victoria Park such an eyesore to anyone with the slightest pretension to artistic taste.—-I am, «*-.,

CYNIGUS.
