in reference to the question of fires und fire extiiitjuishing appliances the following report of the Legal Committee was submitted to the City Council last evenj„..__(l) n Fire Underwriters' Associaton as to the installation of new system of fire alarms and the erection of fire bell in East Ward: Your committee recommend that the fire bell be erected at the foot of Princes-st., adjacent to the reserve. (2) Letter from J. Dawson, as to the installation of new system of fire alarms : Mr Dawson fo be asked for an estimate of the probable cost of a new system of fire alarms. (3) Re Superintendent Cladding's report on the re-organisation and requirements of Fire Brigade: Resolved that this committee is of opinion that a very large expenditure for stations, electric alarm system, new fire engine and horses, and other appliances, in accordance with the report of the superintendent, is immediately necessary. We recommend that the Finance Committee be directed to at once take steps to consider and submit a scheme to find the necessary money on the basis of the superintendent's report. (4) Re designs for fire station; Superintendent Hugo, of Wellington, has been asked and has agreed to come to Auckland and report on the whole Fire Brigade question.
