COUNTRY MEWS.

PUKEKOHE

A meeting of the Commit! • of th. Franklin Agricultural Society was held in the Pukekohe Hotel on Monday evening, Mr Shipperd, the president, in the chair. It was decided to unite with the Auckland Agricultural Association in holding a ploughing match at Papatoitoi this season, and that Messrs Shipherd, Laurie, and G. Bollard be delegates to represent the Franklin Committee. It was also decided to hold the annual meeting of members for the election of committee for the ensuing year on Saturday, July 27th. The much-vexed question of the issue of passes at the Shows will be brought up. It is to be hoped that there will be a full attendance of members present.

The Pukekohe Public Library will be re-opened in their new premises on the lst July. A large supply of books has been obtained from England and friends in the neighbourhood. The reading-room attached will be well supplied with magazines, etc., and will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. This will be a boon to the travelling public, who may be waiting for strain or coach.
