BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The fortnightly meeting of the Education iioaru was held this afternoon. Mr L. J. liagintll presided, and there were also present Messrs J. Lam be, K. Farrell, J. Muir, J. Blades, and A. MeKenzie. Chairman's Report:— Lhe Chairman's report was adopted. It stared, inter alia, that the Humta.-Committee had been informal that Miss Cooksey would resume charge of the Ko. :.'
school. The Ponsonby Committee's oiier of X.U 10/, half cost of improvements to the •infants' school ground had been accepted, and the work ha.'l been authorised. New Zealand en-
signs, supplied by the Government, together with a copy of the booklet, "The Union .Jack end its, Story,"" h'^ l)^'" forwarded to 2i small schools. The teacher at iiaratong-a had reported that the school furniture has been destroyed by lire. Finance Committee—The Finance Commits..: recommended the payment of accounts totalling .c 125] 4/10. The Committee received notice from t.ie Minister of the payment of the sum oi £1.730 5/ for distribution to teachers' as an addition to their salaries for the June quarter, upon the basis previously agreed upon between the Minister and the Board. The Committee recommended that steps be taken to comply with the requirements of "The Workers' Compensation for Accidents Act, 1900." The recommendations were agreed to. Selection of Teachers'.—-The Teachers' Selection Committee recommended that the following appointments should be authorised by the Board: — Miss K. A. Kelly to be teacher ol Oiumoetai school; Miss E. K. Kelly to be teacher of Taupo' school; Mrs E. L. Mellsop to be head te-acher of Mangere school; Miss C. K. D. Dinueen to be first assistant Opotiki school; Mr ''-• F. Snell to be second assistant Opotiki school; Miss L. M. Hill to be assistant teacher Manawaru school; Miss B. I^. Ilerrich to be assistant teacher Kuaotunu school; Miss E. E. Rae to be assistant teacher Tairua school; Miss b. Johnston to be fourth assistant teacher Waiolcaraka school; Miss M. L. Mandeno pnpdl teacher Puriri school; Miss M. E. L. Gallagher pupil teacher Chapel-street school; Miss E. E. Davison pupil teacher lvatikati No. 2 school; Miss J. McClymowt, pupil teacher Waiolcaraka school. The Committee examined the thirtyfour applications for the head-master-ship of the Pukekohe West school, and recommended that the names and qualifications of the following be submitted to the School Committee:— Messrs 11. Mason, W. Collins, J. N. Marsdon, P. J. R. Peacoeke, F. C. Crookes, G. Lippdatt, D. K. Plavell, J. Selby, J. L. Innes, and A. E. Trayes. The Committee recommended that School Committees be consulted in regard to proposed appointments as follows:—Horse Shoe Bush, Mr A. E. Day; Kawakawa (assistant), Miss G. B. Holder; Opitonui (assistant), Miss F. E. Gillman. The report was adopted. .
Paeroa School.—The Teachers' Selection Committee reported that they had examined the twenty-nine applications for the head-masterslvip of the Paeroa school, and recommended that the names and qualifications of the followingl candidates be submitted to the School Committee for their consideration: —Messrs G. A. Davidson, A. Short, J. R. Whitaker, J. Brook, V. Murphy, J. W. Sumner, A. M. Rust, J. Dean, and H. E. Forde. The recommendation was agreed to.
