RAGGED AND STARVING.

HERTZOG'S PLIGHT

BLOFMFONTEIN. May 21

The commandoes of Tlert/og, Brand and Kolbe are reported to be in desperate straits cast of the railway. In the south-cast of this colony they have lately been bustled about considerably by our troops, and our movements from the north prevent their trekking in that direction.

A trustworthy burgher, who hns just arrived here after having been a prisoner in the hands of the Boers, states that the commandoes have not had a morsel of bread for the last five months. They are also badly in "want of warm clothing and horses.

This clearly demonstrates the thoroughness with which our troops have cleared the country.
