IS IT PRACTICABLE?

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —-Your correspondent, "Earnest Hope," always gives us a good readable lftttor. In his communication of Friday last he proposes a compulsory 44 hours per week work for those over 16, with a minimum wage of 1/ per hour. Will "E. 11." work oui- the practicability of his suggestion, so as to include employers as well as employees; the tillers of the soil ns well as the artisan? When this is successfully done Utopia will be well within realisation; meantime the masses of people will have to continue to "labour and to wait." The comfort of the people is as much assured by the judicious expenditure of their income as by its increase, with an abnormal increase of wants, fancied or real; but this is too commonplace for the present temper of the times. —I am, c t<.., ENQUIRER.
