DIX'S GAIETY COS.
The City Hall was crowded to the doors last evening, the special attraction being Miss Irene Franklin, the American comedienne, who made her first appearance in New Zealand. Miss Franklin scored an instant success, and was obliged to sing no less than four songs before being allowed to leave the stage. She has an attractive manner, and is a charming singer. "Take Me Back to Dixie" proved a very popular item, and was succeeded by "Chicken." "Pliny" followed, and "Keep ■ Them Golden Gates Wide Open" was the last and perhaps the best item. Miss Alma Gray, who also made her first apearance, met with a gratifying reception. She sang "That's the Way to Kiss a Girl" and "Ma Baby Boy." She has a capital voice,* and is an expert dancer, being very clever and graceful. Pope and Sayles, L_s Thiers^- and the other members of the company contributed successful items to an excellent entertainment.
