THE GOLDFIELDS.
CHELMSFORD
The mine manager reports that, he has completed a partial clean up of bullion extracted from 116 tons of ore which yielded by amalgamation £66 14/6 and also 90 tons of tailings treated by cyanide £21 17/9, making a total of £88 12/3. This amount is only about one-half the value which should have been obtained according to assay. Tbe reason- of the shortage is absorptions of bullion by the timber in the vats, launders, and extractors, also the zinc in the extractors was only washed and not oxidised. The, first 53 tons treated was of rather low grade, and was put through just to enable the plant being got into good working order.
