(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday
The- Hon. J. G. Ward arrived frdm Dunedin by the express train on Sator. day, and, after meeting a deputation about raihvay arrangements for the Royal Visit, was present for a short time at a smoke concert of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. He delivered an address, in which he announced that during the coming session it was the intention of the Government to bring in an Amended Classification Bill, as the}' wore not satisfied with the present classification of railway servants, which did not go far enough. The Government would endeavour to make better provision for recognition of services than now ex« isted, and to which the servants were entitled. They would also endeavour to provide a superannuation scheme, by wrhich he hoped to retain the best men hi the service, so that they would not be tempted by oiTei-s from over the water. At the same function Messrs. Collin.s, Ell, Tanner, Laurenson, and Russell all stated their intention of advocating the bringing of all Government employees under the same legislation as private employers. Mr Ward afterwards left for Wellington.
