DEATH FROM SCALDING
An infant named Leonard Fowler Jones, agedt 16. months, whose parents reside at Inglewood, Taranaki, died yesterday at Ponsonby from convulsions, caused by scalds, which were caused by the child pulling' a pot of hot water over himself. Mr Gresham, coroner, held an inquest on the case at the Ponsonby Club Hotel this morning. Dr. Bedford said he was called in to see the deceased child on Wednesday evening, when he was suffering from scalds. He saw deceased again on Thursday, and the child died from convulsions on Thursday evening. His directions for the child's treatment were carried out in every particular. Edith Bennett said that on Wednesday evening- she took a pot of boiling water off the stove and placed, it on a bos used for a pot stand. The box was about a foo.t from the ground. She was not aware at this time that the child was anywhere near her. Witness then went to lay the table. She believed Mrs Jones, the child's mother, was in the kitchen. The child came into the kitchen, and the next thing witness knew was that the pot was over him. There was nothing to prevent witness putting the pot in the sink. The jury returned a verdict, of "Accidental Death," no blame being attachable to anybody.
