THE RECEPTION PLATFORM
PROTEST FROM SHOPKEEPERS
At the meeting of the City Council last evening- Mr Hannan vead a petition from the oeupiers of shops in front of whose premises in Lower Queen-street the reception platform is being- erected, pointing' out that the petitioners were incurring serious loss owing to the erection of the platform, in front of their premises and stating" that in some cases takings had fallen off by one half from this cause. The petition was signed byall the occupiers affected. Mr Hannan stated that he strongly sympathised; with the petitioners, and thought they ought to be compensated in some shape or form. It was decided to refer the matter to the Streets Committee with power to act.
