UNEQUAL SENTENCES.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Pardon a constant reader asking1 for an explanation at tha great difference between the sentences passed here ami South on female assault cases. 1 pause and ask is Auckland doomed to be the Siberia of New Zealand? If so, we all better trek South. What will other countries say when they read "ten years and two 25 lash floggings for prevented attempt of assault in Auckland, and fine of £100 or one solid year'for actual assault at Xapier?—l am, etc., Napier-street. J.C.
