ARRANGEMENTS IN THE SOUTH.

WELLINGTON ARRANGEMENTS,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

A storm is raging over the question of the holidays to be observed during the Royal visit to Wellington. The Tite Barnacles of the civil service and the people whose pay is always going on are pretty unanimous in their desire for a whole three days* holiday, whilst on the other hand the enterprising shopkeepers want only a full holiday on the first day (Monday, June 17) and a half-holiday on the Tuesday and Thursday. One wholesale warehouseman said: "Oh hang it, while we're about it let's shut up for the whole week." Preparations for illuminations on a large scale are going on at the Government and Parliamentary buildings. Some very large transparencies are already made, and others are being prepared by Mr Smith, the Government architect. The Garrison Band and several bands from the country districts will play along the route of the procession on the reception day. A special state carriage made in Wanganui for the., use of tie Duke and Duchess of Cornwall during their tour in the colony is being embellished in Wellington. Mr Ronayne, general manager of N.Z. Raihvays, will accompany the Royal party on their journeys. The following Ministers will be present at Auckland to welcome their Royal Highnesses:—The Premier and Messrs Ward, Mills, Carroll, and probably Mr Hall-Jones.
