HAMILTON.
The Hamilton Borough Council met on Monday. The action of the Mayor in effecting a.compromise with the auctioneers by accepting £60 instead of £70 a year for the use of the Hamilton saleyards was endorsed. The Hallway, Department notified that, at present there was no intention of making any alteration in the position of the Frank-' ton railway station. The recommends tions of the Works Committee that Mr Harwood's tender be accepted for the borough carting, that Mr Holtby's application for a drain should be acceded to, and that 100 yards of metal should be obtained yearly from the Railway Department, were adopted. The clerk read the following financial statement:, Overdraft at last meeting, £797 11/4}, accounts passed since, £144 6/9; overdraft at date, £941 16/1. On the motion of Mr Day it was decided to reopen the old road to the Hamilton East cemetery. At last meeting of the Coun-1 cil the Mayor gave notice of motion that the resolution appointing the present town clerk to that and other offices at a salary of £135 per annum be rescinded, and that applications be invited for the same at a salary of £80. In moving it he said he was quite willing to submit an amendment to that resolution, but under the standing orders he did no{'think this was possible. He was prepared, however, to accept an amendment to the effect that the services of the present clerk should be re- >, tamed at a salary of £80 a year. The amendment was forthcoming, and it was carried, only Crs. Davy, Parr, Bond and Hatrick dissenting. At a subsequent meeting of the Domain Board it was decided to retain the services of the clerk at the same salary of £20 a year. A committee consisting of Crs. Bond, Slade, Coates and the Mayor was appointed to confer with the Kerekereroa Road Board with a view to obtaining a foot, bridge alongside the Hamilton raihvny bridge.
