NEWMARKET.

The Newmarket Borough Council met iast evening, the Mayor (Mr J. McColl) in the chair.

Huntly Avenue — Mr P. R. Bailey wrote with reference to the existing water supply in Huntly Avenue. Seven houses in the street were supplied with a half inch pipe. It was resolved to defer the matter until the road is finally taken over by the Council. Carlton Gore Rd.—Mr J. H. Seccombe wrote asking that the footpath opposite his new house .in Carlton Gore Rd. be cut to the level of the road. Referred to the Streets Committee. Park Rd. Drainage—The City Council wrote that the Newmarket Council's drain In Park Rd. must be diverted, and not connected with Domain pavilion drain. On the motion of Cr. Smerdon, it was agreed to let the matter remain in abeyance, pending the development of a complete drainage scheme for the bor- ° Water Supply.—The Town Clerk reported that the water consumption for the past quarter had been 3,581,000 gallons, or 250,000 gallons in excess of that consumed during the corresponding quarter last year. Drainage.—During the discussion on the drainage of Park Rd., Cr. Laxon said that the time had arrived for a complete- drainage scheme for jthe borough to be taken in hand. They had been spending money for years in tinkering with the present drains, & he thought a loan should be undertaken for the purpose of carrying out a comprehensive schema. The Mayor thoroughly agreed with Cr. Laxon, but thought it best to defer the matter until a scheme for the drainage of Hobson Bay was finally adopted Bye-laws.-It was decided to hold a %cries o7 special meetings to revise the bye-laws of the borough.
