LICENSING COMMITTEE

The quarterly meeting of the Auckland City Licensing1 Committee was held this morning. Mr 11. W. Brabant, S.M., presided, and there were also present:—Messrs J. J. Craig, P. E. Cheal, M. Casey, and Arthur Kos'Transfers: The following- transfers were granted:—Daniel O'Connor to John Credin, Freeman's Bay Hotel: Thos. Foley to Dan. O'Connor, Shakespeare' Hotel, Albert-street; j Honora Kathleen Gallagher to Henry George Keith, Star Hotel, Albertstreet. In the ease of the application, of Sydney Wm. Buck to transfer Ins license of the Ponsonby Club Hotel to Andus llaynes, the applicant did not appear, ami the case was struck. out. . . ■■.•' Police lleports: The police reports were on the whole favourable. In the Case Of the Aurora Hotel, the po^ lice reported that, in spite of a warning, the house was still frequented by Joose characters of both sexes. Two eases in point were quoted. Mr Cotter, who appeared for the licensee, explained these cases, and called the | licensee, who said he had done his I best- to clear the house of such characters, and after a little trouble he had succeeded. The matter was deferred until next quarterly meeting to allow the. police,to bring evidence on one of the cases cited, the other having- been satisfactorily explained. Brkomart Hotel.—The police reported that the Britomart Hotel wanted a thorough overhauling- inside. The character of the house had improved ! slio-htly since the present licensee1 took charge.
