THE SYDENHAM DISASTER.

At the inquest in connection with the Sydenhain railway accident, the jury, witnesses, and experts visited tb c scene. Mr Cnrrathers pointed out where he saw the broken fishplate, declared, to have been replaced. The exports who were examined, swore that had not Mr Corruthers said it was impossible to swear as to the exact rail it was a farce to ask them to locate it ai'ter repairs. Two other witnesses who stated they saw the broken plate just after the accident, located different places, and complained that repairs were made. A fettler pointed out a fishplate two rails beyond Mr Carruthers' spot, which an hour after the accident had been replaced by a plate fractured by the engine after it was derailed. Another witness deposed that he examined the line a few minutes after the disaster, and confirmed thpifettler's statement that he saw distinct indications that the engine went oil' two rails' lengths nearer Sydney.
