THE RIVAL CABLES
MELBOURNE, this day.
The Agent-peneral has cabled'that the Pacific Cable Board • considered the agreement between New South Wales and the Eastern Extension Co. prejudicial to the Pacific cable, and recommended to Mr Chamberlain that a conference of the Governments interested be held to discuss the effect. The Agent-General suggests that he should see Mr Chamberlain, and urge that Victoria be placed on the same footing and permitted the same concession as New South Wales, and then in the event of the proposed conference being held, the decisions arrived at would apply to Victoria equally with New South Wales.
