In the Supreme Court Judge Denniston | gave judgment in the case Canterbury Jockey Club against Paterson, a bookmaker, a claim, for damages for trespass on the course. The case involved the question whether the club had a right to exclude persons from the course. Judgment was given for the plaintiffs for £5, with costs. Proceedings were stayed in order that an appeal could be made, conditional that it be taken at the next sittings of the Court of Appeal.
