DUNEDIN. Wednesday.
At the Supreme Court, Samuel Flaherty, 25 years, was charged.with a very bad assault on a girl of the age of four years, at St. Clair. The defence was that the man was drunic, and that whenever he took drink he lost all control of himself, a.nd did not know what he was doing. H?" remembered nothing of the circumstances. The jury returiej »'verdict of guilty. A sentence wa _ passed of .1." years' hard labour, with two floggings of 25 strokes each.
