WHANGAREI.

Messrs Driver and Lovatt, of the fruit canning factory, are receiving large supplies of fruit, and a large number of hands are constantly employed, and in every way the firm speak highly of the support they receive, and feel confident of the future success of the undertaking.

The extension of the railway to Hukerenui is almost complete, and a regular train service is now timetabled to commence from file Ist of March. Most of the station buildings are erected and ready for occupation. I am informed this extension from this end (3 miles) and the extension from the terminus of the Kawa-kawa-Opua raitway (3 miles), now almost complete, will leave only 9 miles to complete the line from here to Russell.

Builfllng in and around the town continues. Messrs Rawnsley and Son have erected two more shops, which are almost ready for occupation. Mr R. Thompson's new shop, erected for Messrs W, and J. Burroughs, butchers, »s almost finished.. Several new dwelling houses are in course of erection for owners or tenants, And generally they have been all taken before

completion
