WELLINGTON NOTES.
(By Telegraph—Owu Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day. THE LATE QUEEN'S STATUE. Subscriptions towards the late Queen's statue have reached upwards of £1400 in spite of a statement that the fund had stopped at £ 1000. PARLIAMENTARY LIBRARY. Under the new Parliamentary Librarian, Mr Wilson, great progress is being made in removing the books from the old building to the new wing. The painting is very tasteful, and reflects much credit on Mr Tate, the contractor. The main room is spacious and handsome, and very pretty electric lights are being installed by Mr Henry, Government electrician, When all the books are classed, and decorations and furniture finished the new library will be one of the finest and best lighted in the Southern Hemisphere. -There is a defect, however, in the access to the library being along the main lobby and into the vestibule, a somewhat roundabout way, where members will be liable to button holing by oftice seekers, petitioners, etc. This, I venture to suggest, might be cured by making an. entrance from the main lobby through the room hitherto used during session as a telegraph office, removing the latter to the waiting room, and providing for the latter by giving the Sergeant-at-Arcns another officeTHE GHOST SENSATION. Dissatisfaction is expressed at the. discharg-e by the S.M. of Balcombe, charged with playing the ghost with a white sheet. One witness suffered from nervous shock, and wac removed from the Court in a condition of nervous prostration. AUCKLAND SHIPBUILDING. Captain Butt, coastal pilot, who has just returned from Auckland, expresses admiration of the extensive ship-building operations in the North, particularly at Lane and Brown's yard at Whangarqa, where a schooner is being built for the Government for the ook Islands trade. Mr Butt's opinion is that she will be one of the handsomest crafts ever turned but in I the colonies.
