FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.

.CHBISTCHURCH, this day. A large number of visiting firemea have arrived for the annual Confer^ • enee and demonstration, which takes ■ place this week. The Mayor of Christchureh and Chairman of the Fire , | Brigade Committee welcomed the'-* delegates. The latter urged thatV ? steps should be taken to introduce a ■, Fire Brigades Bill into the House of Representatives. The report of the . Executive stated that assets were" valued a.t £238 19/2, compared with £187 13/3 last year. The Accident So- , ciety membership was now 100, and claims settled during the yearamonnt* 1 ed to £62 15/. The funds increased1 £107 14/11, the credit balance being1)! f £729 18/8. An exhaustive report wa* ■ presented by the delegates to Paris, who recommended certain improye* * ments for increasing the efficiency of brigades, particularly with reference ( to an increase in the number of chemical 'engines and improvement of ap* pliances for getting rapidly to tires.
