Kitchener telegraphed from Klerksdorp that Methuen. operating in Southwestern Transvaal, cleared that part of the country, marching through Wolmaransted to Klerksdorp. Generals de Yilliers and Liebenberg, with fourteen hundred men, obstinately held a strong position at Haarlebestfontein, twenty miles west of tebestfdntein, whence they were expelted after severe fighting. The Tenth Yeomanry, Victorian Biisliinen and Royal North LancaBhires rendered distinguished service. The British losses were three officers and thirteen men killed, five officers and 29 men wounded. The Boers suffered severely. They left eighteen dead. The "Standard" states that a big British, force, including a naval detachment and a volunteer composite regiment, is operating in the vicinity of Vryheid, in the Southeastern Transvaal, with the object of checkr Utg Botha's retreat.
