Botha on the 10th recommended his followers never to surrender. He would continue to lead them while there were 500 left.
The burghers replied that it was difficult to* continue the struggle, as their ammunition was almost exhausted and the British were destroying the crops and food. Botha replied that the Lord provided everything. Steyn and De Wet issued a fiery proclamation on January 14 denying that the war was ended, iirging retaliation for farm burning, reiterating the lies in regard to outrages upon Boer women by the British, and advocating raids upon unfriendly colonists-
