Messrs George Thomas and Co. report:— The demand for fruit this week has been keen, and generally prices were satisfactory. Pears are being rigidly inspected, and several lots by the Moana were condemned, the codlin moth being strongly in evidence. Apples: Nelson (Js), cooking 3/. dessert 3/0 to 4/, bushel cases 0/ to 7/; the same prices rule for Auckland Irish peach and red Astrachan, and the demand is good. Pears: Williams' B.C. ex Moana were in great demand at up to 9/ for halfgins and 17/ for packer eases. Bishop's thumbs in is from Nelson are worth 5/; Jargonelles, 3/ to 4/. Plums: Heavy supplies are to hand. Burbanks are worth today C>/0 to 0/; Satsumas, 4/0: Diamond, 5/: Orleans, 3/6; Ogon, 5/*'' per 221b to 2Slb case. Greengages are actively asked for, and worth 0/. Grapes: Hothouse from Auckland in demand at 1/ to 1/1 per lb. Peaches: Supplies are confined to Sydnc-ys, and -is are worth 0/ to 7/ each. The demand is splendid. Nectarines: Sydneys today realised 9/ to 10/ per J-gin case for ripe samples, and 5/ for Is on the green side. Tbe demand is still unsatisfied. Tomatoes: Consignments from Auckland, Hawke's Bay. and Nelson have fully supplied requirements. Best Nelsons, 8/ to 10/9: Auckland, 0/ to 7/. The demand still remains good. French beans: Packer cases from Auckland fully worth 5/ each; local supplies, 2_d to 3d per lb. New potatoes: Hutts still command 8/ to !)/; Aucklands, 7/0 to 8/0; but as Canterbury shippers are now operating we look for a heavy decrease almost immediately. Onions: Doily reducing, and now at 0/ per cwt. Eggs: Very heavy consignments still on market, and values very dull at Sd to Ssd per doz. Butter: Fresh, Yd; lump, Ojd to 7d per lb.
