THE IMPERIAL TROOPS.
r,JTO ARRIVE IN AUCKLAND ON |g. FEBRUARY 10.
The date of the arrival in Auckland J>f the Imperial troops who have been taking part in the Commonwealth celebrations has been definitely fixed, as will be seen from the following telegram received by His Worship the Mayor (Mr David Goldie) from the Acting-Premier (the Hon. J.G. Ward): "The Imperial troops will arrive in Auckland early on the morning of ' February 10, and will leave again late <fo the afternoon of the 11th for Australia. I shall be glad to know whether the citizens of Auckland would co-operate in entertaining them, and celebrating their visit in a suitable way as they deem best. Would you kindly let me know what arrangements can be made for billeting, say, 1000 troops for one night, and accommodating 50 officers at the best hotels. 'All arrangements will be made by the Government for the necessary horses to mount the men.
Would you kindly confer with those
•whom you desire to. and advise me how far you can co-operate in making the visit of the troops to Auckland such a one as they will have reason
to appreciate, and carry away pleasant memories of? I would be glad if you will advise me by wire particulars of such programme as you propose Lo carry out. It is unnecessary for me to add that while the Government •would be willing to do all in its power to make the visit a pleasant one, it is the local people who can make the reception a great success." His Worship intends to comply with the request of the telegram as soon us possible.
