TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.

The acceptances for the events on the opening day and the Steeplechase to be run on the second day foil due last night, and it is pleasing to find that the efforts of Mr Knight have been appreciated, judging by the good number of horses still left in. The only withdrawal of note in the Cup is Hohoro. It is very rarely that the pretty suburban racecourse has looked so well ne Is the case at present, the rains having freshened tilings up wonderfully, and there is a tot&' absence of the parched and burnt-up-looklug turf which one usually associates with the meeting held at this time of. the year. Mr Wynyard has all the details of the meeting well in hand, and a successful reunion seems assured. It is'possible, however, that Mr Gordon may reserve the son of Vanguard for the Zealaudia Plate, and in his absence the issue should be fought out between Cora Linn, Shannon, and Goldspur. ' The Wellesley Stakes looks like falling to Mensehikoff, and he should be followed home by Indian Queen. In the Maiden Plate there are nine engaged, and I like best the chances of Fashion and Full Cry.
