SENTENCES OF IMPRISONMENT.

At Balclutha yesterday afternoon nil the sir "Tog sellers were proceeded against under the ISBI Act for selling lkiuor Mr Fraser .said the attitude of the' Crown was that Clutha. was not a licensing district. The law was being persistently and deliberately broken throughout the length and breadth of the electorate, fines being powerless to check the evil or make people cautious. He therefore pressed for imprisonment in all cases. The magistrate said he would not shrink from doing his duty whatever his feel- ™™ might be. He sentenced Peter Bain Allan, McDonnell and Vial, junr., all of whom had pleaded guilty, to 10 days' imprisonment in Dunedm ga,ol.
