Auckland Wool Stores. January 10. Horses have been brought forward in increased numbers, and a good demand prevails at prices In favour of the vendor. There was a large number entered at the Durham Yards on Friday, and competition was good. Heavy draughts sold .at from £20 15/ to £35; medium do., £15 17/6 to £22 10/; light harness do., £5 17/0 to £14 2'o. The trotting mare Woodbine made 45 guineas; the ponr'Karaka. !l guineas. Cattle: At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday dairy and store cattle were penned in* full numbers and- met a ready sale. Dairy cows sold at from £3 15/ to £7 10/. The advertised store steers were a rough lot, and sold at from £3 5/ to £4 17/. Beef was yarded in full numbers and met a brisk sale at advanced rates, the quality throughout being good. Steers sold at from 21/ to 24/ per 1001b; cows, 17/ to 20/. Oxen made from £5 10/ to £10 2/0; cows, £4 2/0 to £7 12/6., Sheep were yarded in full numbers at the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday and advanced in prices, wethers selling at from 12/9 to 18/0; ewes, 9/9 to 14/6. The advertised store wethers made 11/; do. ewes, 7/0 to 11/; hoggets, 4/0 to 9/. Lambs, in average supply, sold at from 1/6 to 13/3. Pigs: Porkers sold at from 17/ to 21/; weaners, 4/6 to 10/3. At the clearing sale of live and dead stock held at Tuakau. on Mr Mitchell's farm good prices were, realised. Wool: We offered our second catalogue of the season yesterday at the Wool Exchange There was a full attendance of buyers, and bidding, in marked contrast to the first sale, was spirited for all clean, well-grown wools, especially those showin- a little quality. Prices were better all round by a farthing to a halfpenny, according to quality and condition, buyers preferring skirted and evenly-packed wools. Some of the wool passed in from last sales brought from par to a halfpenny advance on prices then offered, while some failed to come up to previous hlds Prices realised were as follows :- Merino, 5d to 6d; half bred, sid to «d; crossbred (One), M to sid; crossbred fcoqrse) 4d to 43d; Lincoln, 4d to 43d, Seces 2' ? . dto 3Jd; bellies. 2id. Some 400 to 500 baies" were withdrawn from our catalogue owing to their being damaged by water at the fire in Customs-street. Apart from these, we offered 2000 ,bales, selling nearly the half, and expect-to be able to clear the bulk during the next few days. Maize- The market is still stronger, 8/41 per bushel being obtained for Sydney on Monday. Present price Is 2/o per b Oats 1! The market is firm at 1/UJ per bushel c.i.f. B grade for wholesale lines. Chaff- Supplies coming to hand are very small but in a- week or two we expect new chaff. Present rate is.£3 per ton at rail for prime quality.
