Tn response, to representations made by the New Zealand Farmers' Union, the Government have sent Mr. Wright, the Government Engineer, to visit the Ruatangata swamp at Hikurangi, with a view to forming an estimate of the cost of drainage. A portion of the cost will probably have to be borne by the settlers interested, who own more than t.hree-quarters of the area affected.
