The offices of most of the principal legal firms were closed from 3 to 3 p.m. to-day out of respect to the memory of the late Mr E. A. Mackechnie, whose remains were interred at Purewa cemetery this'afternoon.
Entries for the 72 yards swimming handicap, to be held under the auspices or the Auckland Swimming Club, next Wednesday evening, close with Mr H. G. Chevis at the SportClub, Durham-street, • to-morrow, between 8 and 9 p.m.
