A SIXTH CONTINGENT COMPLAINT

(To the Kditor.)

Sir,—As a constant reader of your paper I would ask your indulgence to air a

grievance Which T, with others, have against the authorities in charge of the Contingent now in camp.

On hearing of the proposal to raise another Contingent, I offered my services, was examined in riding, physique and shooting, and passed the three tests. I was then ordered to camp, where I remained for two days until I contracted a slight attack of influenza, for which I was sent home and told not to worry as my place was assured. Feeling better on Tuesday, I went back to camp, where I was quietly informedMhat my place was filled, in spite of the doctor having reported me as getting better and likely to be back within a day or two.

As a volunteer I have always been taught to look up to my superior officers, and have always found them act considerately, with one exception, that being when pressing the Commandant for his reason for striking my name off the list after having passed the tests. For this I was unceremoniously snubbed and told that others had been taken on in miplace. This, I contend, is very hard, not to say unjust, on the part of any superior officer, and I would like to hear an expression of opinion on this subject by some of tho?" similarly treated.

For the sake of those unversed in these matters, can any of your readers give an iden how to work the ropes? I think the answer may be spelled in nine letters— "Influence." Thanking you in anticipation for your forbearance. T am, etc.,

ONE WHO HAS PASSED THE TESTS.
