TAKAPUNA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
SAKE OF WORK,
East night the ladies connected with Takapuna Presbyterian Church concluded a two-days' sale of work, the object of the bazaar being to clear off a debt of £S0 on the church site. About 10 o'clock last night the "Rev. R. Ferguson had the gratifying announcement to make that the sum realised amounted to one hundred guineas. The' announcement was received with cheers, a-jain and again renewed. On Wednesday afternoon the Mayor of Devonport (Mr .7. C. Macky) gracefully performed the opening ceremony. There were, in all, eight stalls,'"looking pretty and attractive amid their decorations and variety of saleable articles. The following ladles presided:—Lollie sfall, MTsses Frater (2), and Pickering; Devonport stall, Mrs Ferguson, Misses Symons and J. Murchie;, plain stall, Mesdames Sinclair. McCrcery, Burrows and Wright; fancy stall, Mesdames Frater and Davey; plain work stall, Mesdames P .Robertson and Fish; produce stall, Mr John Budge; flower stall. Misses Budge, Curtis, Stevens, Alison, Frater. A large marquee was erected for the refreshment stall, which was under the charge of Mesdames H. Kobertson, Stevens. Tod, Campbell, and Miss Campbell. The musical arrangements for the two days were under the supervision of Mrs Braclstreet, and contributed much to the enjoyment of the gathering. Tha following frfends took part in tne programme:—Mesdames Ferguson, Bradstreet, Hoyes, Misses Harvey, Patrick, Alison, Webb. Fraser, Murchie, Prime. Pas de Leon, Messrs W. J. England, Bradstreet, Hoyes, Harkins, Slm.monds and .Tohansen. Professor Beckford, with his Punch and Judy, drew crowded houses in an adjoining tent. Messrs Sinclair, Campbell, McMurtrie. Budge, Bradstreet, Sheriff, Tod, and Hay tion looked after the general appointments for the two days. The exact weight of a beautiful cake (Gib looz), presented by Mr H. Robertson, was guessed by Mr Clarey. Mr Johnstone; of Devonport, presented a second cake, but no one guessed the article hidden in its ample folds, so it was sold. The article was an Indian rupee. A bridal doll's name was-rightly discovered by Mrs Sinclair, the name being Martha. A second bride was named Patience, but no one found out the secret. A weighing machine and a phonograph afforded amusement to many. The Rev. R. Ferguson, in a hearty speech, proposed a vote of thanks to all the ladies and gentlemen who had laboured so indefatigably in connection with tho sale of work, and whose efforts had been so abundantly crowned with success. He was sure all the workers felt well rewarded and highly gratified. The vote was carried by acclamation and cheers, as also was a vote of thanks to Rev. R. Ferguson, on the motion of Mr McMurtrie. The committee of management invited all helpers to a social and musical evening next Friday in the Lake Hall.
