KAWHIA.

The principal topic just now is the ap-. proachlng regatta, which is looked forward to with keen interest. A very good programme has been arranged, including Regatta Monster Picnic, and excursions in harbour, and for those who prefer the deep sea a fishing excursion to Ganet Island, and field sports. Arrangements have been made with the Northern S.S. Co. to run excursions from Waitara and Onehunga, tickets available for a fortnight, and at the moderate sum of 20/ return, including a fishing excursion to Ganet Island. This will give those desirous of looking over the new block of land which Is to be Balloted for some time in February or March an excellent opportunity of doing so and of having a most enjoyable few days in Kawhia also. The committee are doing everything in their power to insure the. success of their project, and it is to be hoped they will be jvell rewarded for their pains, and that the,"clerk of the, weather" will favour witli the best of weather.

Evidences of the progress, of the place are not wanting, plenty of bush clearings being plainly visible in the distance, and in - the township itself several new and nice homesteads are being erected, and thero is talk of one or two good boarding houses going up shortly, and not before they are badly needed either.

The school concert on Friday was a great. success and realised a nice' little addition to the prize and picnic fund for the school children. Too much praise cannot be given to both Mr and Mrs Hamilton (the teachers) for the care with which tho children have been taught and the performance of the little mites was most creditable; the Indian club and dumb-bell exercises by some of the pupils (performed to music) were very well done, some of the children being particularly, good. It is invidious to single out one item amongst so many all good, but our old friend, Mr Lundon, in his comic songs, seems perfectly irresistible, and scores double encores every time. Mr Buckeridge was up to his usual form, and Mr Templer, in his song, was also good. The recitation by Mr Hamilton's oldest pupil was a decided success and exceedingly well rendered. Mrs Loangley, as .usual, at the piano, was indispensable.
