"HIPPONA'S" NOTE-BOOK.

"Advance" selects the following seven as likely to win the Auckland Cup:—Miss Delaval, Ideal, La Gloria, Coronet, Malatua, Fulmen, Tortulla. Of the forty-nine animals weighted for the Railway Handicap he selects Renown, Malatua, Hastings, Winsome, Tommy Atkins, Takapuna. Of the Steeplechase candidates probably Straybird, Voltigeur IL, Nor'west, Cannongate and Dingo will run well. Cannongate, judging by his running at the Takapuna meeting, will require a lot of beating. R. Mason was down from Yaldhurst this morning with Diplomat, Siege Gun and San Remo (says the "Canterbury Times"). The latter K. a full-brother to Sant Ilario, and this is.his first visit to head-quarters. He is a darker bay in colour than his brother, but is a fine big colt, and from appearances gives promise of future excellence. Diplomat, who . is a full-brother to Courtier, claims engagements in the two-year-old events at Plumpton, and from a glimpse of the track form he displayed here previous to the spring meeting he should prove_ a difficult opponent to defeat, as his sprinting abilities are undoubted. The Takapuna Jockey Club are out with an attractive programme for their three days' Summer Meeting. The total amount of money allotted in stakes runs out to the good sum of £24,450. The added money to the Takapuna Cup has been made the good sum of 400sovs. The T.J.C. It is to be hoped that the Avondale Jockey Club authorities will look him up, for they deservedly are entitled to a permit for their Winter Meeting. The foaling season at Wellington Park is now complete, the result being 19 colts and 12 fillies. The latest mares who foaled were Antelope (by Apremont—Miss Kate), colt to Torpedo, and Vlvandiere (by Musket—Georgi), filly to Seaton Delaval. The Auckland Trotting Club received a splendid nomination for their three days' summer meeting last night. In all there are 34G entries. Mr F. W. Edwards, the popular and successful handleapper- of the club, declares the handicaps on Friday next. All Day.
