AUCKLAND RACING CLUB SUMMER MEETING.
Acceptances and general entries for the minor events to be contested on the four days of the Auckland Racing Club Summer Meeting fell due last night, when a splendid response was made from owners all over the colony. With regard to the Auckland Cup, La Gloria is favourite. No equine could look better. Beddington, Miss Delaval,- Coronet and Fulmen also fill the eye pleasingly. .My present fancies are La Gloria and Coronet. The Foal Stakes has six left in. Menschikoft* and Field Battery being left in to oppose Scotty, Kissaline, Sparkling Water, and Maroon and Gold. Eight have paid up for the Derby, and twelve for the Royal Stakes.
With the near advent of the meetino- it behoves the racing* scribes to be up at early morning* to watch the training operations at Eilersiie. Before the stars disappeared this morning I was* awake from my slumbers, and was rewarded by witnessing some interesting gallops. Bluejacket and Knight of Athol covered the Cup distance in 3.33. Beddington, La Gloria, and Miss Delaval were companions in a sound gallop over a mile and a half, run in 2.38. Once round took 2min., and a mile and a quarter 2.13. St. Peter, St. Ursula, and Paul Seaton ran a round on the plough in 1.48. Cavalier and Jim Kean ran a strong mile. Scotty, Formula, and Gressy galloped five furlongs on the tan, Formula finishing in front in 1.4. Fulmen got through steady pacingover two miles. Hengist pleased in long work. Dayntree strode freely over two miles. Dingo and Cannongate did long work. Coronet, assisted by Terence and St. Lawrence, put up the best gallop of the morning. In all over 136 horses were exercised, and the scene on the racecourse was a busy one. Seahorse was worked after breakfast.
