When the case against Mrs Henderson, found guilty of manslaughter, was called on at the Supreme Court to-day, the Chief Justice intimated that he could .not see his way to leserve the point raised for the defence as to the admission of the deceased girl a depositions. Sentence was deferred till to-morrow. The case of John Claney, charged with causing grievous bodily harm, is j being heard to-day. j ' CHEISTCHURCH, this day. | The Supreme Court was occupied to- j day with a case in which Jakins and j Bower, produce merchants, sue the j Union Steamship Company for £lli>. j ior loss and damages alleged to have occurred through a shipment of onions j sent by the firm deteriorating owing j to the Talune's voyage being prolonged j when the Perthshire was taken in tow. The following are the names of the Victorian tennis players who visit Christchurch for the coming championship tournament: — Representative team: A. W. Dunlop, S. F. Diddams, E. Waters, L. Laxon, H. N. McKean. The following will play in handicap events: Dr. Godfrey, R. C. Godfrey, H. Morris, R. Baillirn, J. C. Dunlop. I Several of the players have intimated j a desire to play-with some of the New Zealand lady players in a combined (handicap,: and have asked the Canterbury Association to endeavour to arrange partners for them. NAPIER, this day. An unoccupied four-roomed cottage, owned by F. Nicholls, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning, and an adjoining cottage, occupied by W. Reading, senr., was considerably charred. Nicholls is insured in the. Imperial for £150. The origin of the. fire is a mystery.
